HP Image Zone 3.5 has been renamed to HP Photosmart Essential 3.5 and it is a completely free software to use even if we have not got any HP device. It is now available for online downloading. It is primarily aimed at printing, it supports JPG, JPEG, BMP, PNG y GIF images. It allows us to import our photos from a memory card, printer, camera, PC, CD, scanner, etc. But before doing any task we have to upload the photos first to the Library, and from there we can print them, share (via email or websites) or create photobook, cards, calendars and scrapbooks. This last option requires downloading a few free add-ons. The user interface displays the icons with the options available. It is very easy to navigate and smoothly guide us and download any add-on we require with a few clicks.
What is new and very innovative is that we can create quite professional virtual photo albums or we can print them after buying the new HP Photo Book Kit, great if we feel creative and want to make our own gifts to give to relatives and friends.
There are 3 designs within the program but we can instantly download many more for free. It is amazing the wide range of patterns available, almost for any aspect of our live, such as especial occassions, cookbook, nature, parties, kids and babies, pets, holidays, memories, etc. Windows Vista users can now print directly.
Advantages
  • Freeware
  • Easy to use
  • Nice Photo Book, Calendars & ScrapBook
  • Graphical Interface
  • Lots of Templates
Disadvantages
  • We need to perform a prior uploading of the photos to the Photosmart Library.
  • Only for Windows 2000, XP and Vista.

I believe that HP Image Zone 3.5 was more than just renamed to HP Photosmart Essential 3. As a user of Image Zone for several years I really was set back when I replaced my failed harddrive and went to the HP site to download ImageZone and got Photosmart Essential in its place. I like HP Image Zone very much because I´ve leaarned how to use it and of the things I use it for it does what I need it to do. Although it is not The Gimp or PhotoShop. I use it to view, crop, recrop, make minor lighting, brightness, color, or tint changes, rename and print fotos. HP has replaced it with a new improved version and no longer provides ImageZone for download from it´s site. Thanks to this site, software.informer.com I downloaded ImageZone recently and I am able to use this loved program again.
